Governing Body Health Review

The challenge

This highly motivated, relatively small Clinical Commissioning Group was in an early wave for Authorisation. Their joint work across the health system had been very positive, but a number of issues were not sufficiently well developed and they were coming under close scrutiny:

They needed a clearer sense of strategic direction, which was less easy as they straddled local authority boundaries and had particularly focussed on primary care Quality governance was at a very early stage of development and the levers for improving quality were not fully grasped by Governing Body members There were a significant number of new Governing Body members, including late appointment of independent members Good relationships with member practices and other CCGs had meant less attention had been paid to how the Governing Body itself was going to work together effectively and make sound strategic decisions.
