Our client provides district and other community nursing services to a large locality patch with some of the highest indices of deprivation in the country. We focused on supporting the district nursing services, which had gone through a plethora of changes, both ahead of and following its merger with the acute trust as part of Transforming Community Services. There had been concerns over capacity and the quality of patient care delivered across some of the localities. Some issues had been addressed, though some remained such as the service running with a consistently high vacancy rate; putting undue pressure on already stretched district nursing staff. Staff morale was low and issues such as skill mix, the relationship with stakeholders and challenges in respect of the culture were highlighted as areas to be addressed.
